SPIRITUAL EVOLUTION For as long as one can trace back, humanity has been faced with one universal challenge. There are many names that can describe it  -  ego (in the Orient), Foreign installation (Don Juan), The act (Landmark education), Energetic blockage (Alternative healing), Sankara (Vajrayana Buddhism), The devil (in more recent religions, like Christianity), and many others, but whatever it is described as, the universal understanding is that something is preventing human individuals from being connected to their essential humanity and experiencing the true state of being. The ego (lets call it that for convenience) can be perceived in the body as different blockages to the energy flow. It begins it's existence when we are born, and slowly develops into a complex system of dealing with the world, that is strongly supported by the accumulated history of personal experience. From the moment it is introduced into our being, it systematically chisels away at our luminosity, slowly causing the breakdown, disease and eventually death. It is like an energetic virus, that possesses just enough power and intelligence to keep itself hidden from our awareness and survive at all costs. It knows us intimately; in a way, it is our intimate secret self. But calling the ego an enemy would be taking away from the totality of this dilemma, for it is as much part of universal nature as our true selves. It is a means though which our consciousness can evolve and realize itself. Hence the path to liberation of the spirit within, is the path of spiritual evolution. All Spiritual teaching and techniques, from many cultures, are directly or indirectly aimed at overcoming this challenge and reconnecting to the inner essence of being, which is our true nature.
