The Practice of Inner Silence

Inner Silence is a doorway to miraculous transformation. Every discipline aims to achieve at least a moment of total inner silence through different means of capturing and directing attention, because in the space of inner silence, anything becomes possible.

Inner Silence does not simply mean lack of thoughts. Stopping the internal dialogue is one of the means to get to inner silence. At times, just forcing the flow of thoughts to stop can lead away from inner silence, by generating much commotion in other areas of being. The most direct way to inner silence is awareness of inner and outer processes. Maintaining this awareness will lead to harmonizing of these processes and arousal of natural inner stillness.

It doesn’t take a long observation to realize that the mind is constantly involved in the conversation with itself – commenting, explaining and describing the reality, while at the same time reacting to its own descriptions and opinions. This kind of mental activity leads to vicious cycles, mental tensions and closed perception that keeps one moving with the unconscious flow, and holds one fixed to a structured reality. Natural inner silence sets in the moment this conversation ceases, and one can become present to reality as it is. By becoming aware of this inner dialogue, with alertness, patience and acceptance, it is possible to resolve the tensions and release the mind into stillness.
