The Law of Impermanence

Impermanence is a useful distinction for assisting the mind tom let go of attachment. The law of impermanence is one of nature’s profound truths that can be easily observed in all areas of the manifested universe. The entire universe and all it’s components, down to the smallest detectable unit, are constantly changing. The entire field of mind equally exists in the state of change and flux. The normal perception is oblivious to that change and habitually perceives objects and events as fixed and permanent. Even when one is able to understand intellectually, that nothing ever remains the same, even for a second, the mind still follows the illusion of permanence and gets seriously attached to the stimuli. That kind of attachment causes one to lose awareness and get sucked into the drama of life, uncontrollably carried away by the flow of cause and effect. A well implemented inner discipline of constant observation of the transitory nature of reality, with a clear understanding of impermanence, can help in keeping one detached from the karmic flow of life, and generates the power to alter the direction of that flow.

When faced with any situation, as well as inner reaction to the situation, one must call upon his understanding of impermanence, setting it as a background for any experience. In the space where all events are seen as impermanent, the misery causing reactions begin to lose their power, because the basis for any ignorant reaction is unawareness of this most basic law of nature.
